Michael Ashley Ball urodził się 27 czerwca 1962 roku w Bromsgrove. Jest brytyjskim aktorem, piosenkarzem, prezenterem radiowym i telewizyjnym. Od dziecka czuł pociąg do teatru, i z tym również m.in związał swoją przyszłość. O występowaniu na deskach teatralnych marzył jako mały chłopiec, dlatego uczęszczanie do collegu w Plymouth, w którym nie mógł rozwijać swojej pasji sprawiało, że czuł się nieszczęśliwy. Jak nastolatek brał udział w przedstawieniach i spotkaniach młodzieżowego klubu teatralnego. Oprócz talentu aktorskiego, wykazywał również zdolności wokalne, co czyniło rodzinę bardzo dumną, zwłaszcza po ukończeniu przez niego studiów na wydziale aktorstwa. Grał w takich spektaklach, jak Les Misérables, Aspects of Love, Caractacus Chitty Chitty Bang Bang czy Hairspray. W 1992 roku telewizja BBC wybrała go na reprezentanta Zjednoczonego Królestwa w Konkursie Piosenki Eurowizji. W specjalnym koncercie Michael zaśpiewał 8 piosenek, z której wybrano jedną, pod tytułem One stop out of time. Na Eurowizji odniosła ona sukces, osiągając 2. miejsce z dorobkiem 139 punktów. W czasie swojej kariery Michael nagrał co prawda kilka utworów, jednak sprawą priorytetową była i jest dla niego kariera aktorska. Obecnie właśnie to zajmuje mu najwięcej czasu i uwagi. W 2010 roku był gościem irlandzkich preselekcji do Eurowizji.
